Membership

Members of the Swedish Fundraising Association Giva Sverige are part of a network of over 190 diverse organisations that all strive to develop their own and the non-profit sector’s fundraising skills.

Giva Sverige acts as a platform for the sector in professionalising, ensuring compliance and transparency, and advocating for our members in the diverse and complex fundraising landscape. The ultimate goal is to foster a conducive culture for increased giving to ensure a viable and thriving civil society, for and together with our members.

Why become a member?

Members of Giva enjoy a range of benefits that are connected to our three main areas of work. These are professional development, governance and compliance, and advocacy.

Giva Sverige offers multiple opportunities for courses, trainings, events, and conferences at a reduced rate for members. These are organised by Giva Sverige, and are frequented by expert lecturers and speakers. Additionally, these provide excellent opportunities to network with fellow fundraising professionals.

The governance and compliance part of the membership allows the member organisation to demonstrate to their donors that they adhere to rigorous regulations and guidelines for transparent, ethical, and professional gift collection. This is done by following Giva Sverige’s Quality Code (see below) and is awarded with the label Safe giving (Tryggt givande) to showcase to donors, partners, and other relevant actors.

Additionally, being a professional membership body, Giva Sverige has a powerful voice in driving political and other issues that are important for fundraising professionals and the organisations they represent. Giva Sverige collects data, produces reports, talks to politicians, and much more.

Requirements

In order to become a member and increse the professionalised image of fundraising organisations in Sweden, Giva Sverige requires members to follow the Quailty Code. The Code is a framework for ethical fundraising and the transparent and professional governance of non-profit organisations. Regular reporting strengthens the organisations’ work with ethics, finances, impact measurement as well as internal control and governance and contributes to strengthening the credibility of non-profit organisations in Sweden.

The Quality Code encompasses four main areas:

  • Ethical priciples
  • Financial reporting
  • Impact measurement
  • Internal control and governance

In order to fulfill the requirements for a regular membership, all requirements of the Code have to be satisfied by the applicant organisation. Once done, a member organisation is free to use the ”Safe giving” (Tryggt givande) label to prove their compliance.

Membership benefits

Besides opportunities for professional development, the Tryggt givande-label, and advocacy efforts done on our members’ behalf, Giva Sverige collaborates with relevant suppliers of tools and services and can offer beneficial discounts to our members. These include, among other, legal support, trainings and courses, and IT tools. Read more about our membership benefits here.

As a member organisation of Giva Sverige, you have the opportunity to receive donations from donors in the United States via Charities Aid Foundation America (CAF America). Giva Sverige is approved to recieve and regrant gifts via CAF America, allowing individuals in the USA to donate to our member organisations. As CAF America is a registered 501(c)(3) donations made through them are eligible for tax exemption. This partnership leverages Giva Sverige’s Quality Code framework and reporting, ensuring compliance and accountability. As a result, our member organisations can bypass their own control processes with CAF America, simplifying the donation process for donors in the United States looking to make a donation to one of our member organisations. Read more about the process of regranting through CAF and Giva Sverige here (in Swedish).
